There are plenty of ways to spruce up a neighborhood. Volunteers in Mecklenburg, North Carolina as part of a “Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful, took on one of the most common areas that can use sprucing up—the place where the homeless people congregate. These areas can turn into dumping grounds for trash, junk, and other types of debris.
One of the most surprising things that the Mecklenburg volunteers cleaned up was an inch high of glass. Needless to say, this was a hazard for anyone who was in the area, especially at night or when bad weather may obscure the danger.
Once the area is clean and those who frequent it see how good it looks, the hope is that same mess won’t occur at this location a second time.
If you have a place where the homeless congregate, just picking up trash can do a great deal to improve the area. November 19, 2016 is National Spruce Up Day, but any day of the year that you help others to spruce up, is a great day.
